Figures from Wageningen Economic Research show that the price of pork chunks increased by €0,15 to €24,35 per 100 kilos. Since the upward trend started, the price has already increased by €2,20. The compound feed price indicator also expects an increase in feed prices in the coming months.

Commodity prices have risen rapidly in recent months. This is due to the declining ending stocks that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides; the wheat price in particular responds strongly to this. The futures market is ahead of the Matif in Paris wheat has now risen to above €185 per tonne.

Erratic commodity prices
In 2017, the wheat price also rose above €180 per tonne during this period, before falling back to lower levels. The weather has a strong influence on the price during this period; Even in minor disasters, market parties react extremely. This leads to erratic price movements.

To illustrate: May 30 delivered the September contract wheat more than €5 up to €180,25. At this time of year the market sometimes tends to exaggerate and then corrections follow. The coming months will reveal at what price levels buyers and sellers will find each other.
