Pig farming is declining in most places, but this is not the case in Overijssel. However, this is a small growth, which indicates that the pig rights move minimally. However, there have been about 2010 fewer pig units since 300.000.
The province of North Brabant had the most pig rights in 2010 and this is still the case in 2017. Gelderland and Limburg follow in second and third place, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. In all these regions, however, the number of allowances is shrinking. It's about falls from 2,5% to 8%, with Gelderland being the largest decrease notes.
Small part has moved
In total there are 300.000 pork rights disappeared from the field. "However, only a small part of those rights was moved to another province," said Cor Pierik, agriculture spokesperson for CBS. Overijssel shows a strong increase in the rights, whereby it should be noted that there were more pigs present before 2010 and the sector has shrunk (compared to 1998). In other places, the numbers have undergone only minor adjustments.
Warm remediation?
The figures show that there are still enough rights in the field that are not currently being used. Combined with the call for scrapping compensation, it is clear that the sector is not planning for the warm remediation as an opportunity to get rid of the old stables. This while politics is more likely to focus on fewer animals. The elaboration of the plans must show how these different perspectives will find each other.
