After a few weeks of sharp price drops, a bottom is beginning to form on the piglet market. However, sales are not going without a hitch. Where does the DCA BestPigletPrice come out?
Although the demand for piglets in Germany is hardly increasing, the piglet price in Germany (the Nord/West quotation) has remained unchanged at €35 per piglet. This is also the trend report for this week. Now that the pig price is cautiously rising again, the pressure on the piglet market has faded into the background.
No market for free piglets
There is also some prospect of recovery in the Netherlands. After the quotes were in a downward spiral for weeks, more and more traders are calling for unchanged. However, it is said that sales (particularly of free piglets) are still challenging and that the coming weeks will not be easy.
Historically, the market only revives from the end of October. The piglets that are currently being laid up will be marketed as fattening pigs in December. There is little confidence that pig prices will have risen significantly before then. That makes the permanent couplings work reasonably well, but there is very little interest in free piglets.
On balance there is a 'push market'. For now this seems to have found a bottom. This is because the DCA BestPigletPrice remains at €28 per piglet. However, the quotations at DCA-Markets are still below the quotation. Piglet prices are expected to maintain these low levels in the coming weeks. Because there have been questions about the system of the BPP loom, these are once again brought to your attention.
Pig price Vion
Vion continues the upward trend that has started on the pig market. The slaughterhouse follows the movement of the DCA Scholarship Price 2.0 and plus €0.01 to €1,40 per kilo. Because the weights have dropped considerably, the hams weigh less. This logically leads to less yield. All in all, Vion speaks of a difficult sales market. The bright spots are the shoulders and necks, which go off fairly quickly.

Explanation DCA Markets: There is some stabilization on the market, despite the fact that the trade is still having some difficulty getting the piglets placed. The stabilization is fueled by the demand for slaughter piglets that must be delivered soon in a weight class of 11 to 16 kilos. However, the offer is not there for the taking. On average, the supply will find its way this week, traders report. Lower surcharges are achieved in the trade with Germany, while the piglets are almost placed for the domestic market. It is quiet on the export market, with trade only seeming possible at very low prices. The statements for piglet listing would mathematically result in a €0,50 reduction. However, given what is being tasted in the market this week, it is being held unchanged. |
