Danish Crown focuses on exports to Japan

10 August 2018 - Wouter Baan

Danish Crown wants to 'boost' pork exports to Japan. That is why the slaughter company is building a new production line, especially for the Japanese market.

This production line, which will be built at the Blans site, will increase the number of employees by approximately 10% to approximately 1.200. Søren Eriksen, CEO at Danish Crown, is delighted that the slaughterhouse can expand its workforce.

Large sales market
Japan is an important sales market for the Danish slaughter company. In 2017, exports brought in about 3 billion Danish kroner (about €400 million). After Spain, Denmark is the largest European exporter of pork to Japan.

It is not unlikely that exports will increase in the coming years. From 2019 it goes free trade agreement between the European Union and Japan. According to Eriksen, this makes complex customs legislation simpler.
