Tönnies has announced that it will be slaughtering more bears. The abattoir reports that there is more demand from pig farmers to supply intact boars. This is because German law prohibits castration without anesthetic as of January 1, 2019.
The abattoir wants to respond to the call of the pig farmers. In addition, the company points out that squaring and processing boars is more difficult and expensive than female and castrated pigs. According to Tönnies, there is also the risk that a large number of boars will not pass the odor detection, whereby the group does indicate that it wants to reduce the risks of boar taint.
It can't be otherwise?
Tönnies doesn't seem to have much choice. This is because there is a good chance that many intact bears will be offered from 1 January 2019. Earlier, many German sow farmers indicated that it would be too expensive to castrate the boars under anaesthetic. Leaving the . intact Eggplant therefore seems to be a better option, which means that more bears are expected to enter the market.
In addition, the slaughterhouse states that it is concerned about the sale of bear meat worries. It therefore warns pig farmers that the bears will be cut on the payout price.
