The Belgian Minister of Agriculture has made money available to combat the outbreak of African swine fever. Part of the budget will be used to place a fence around the infected area.
The fence is intended to prevent (infected) wild boars from leaving the area and it covers an area of 63.000 hectares. According to the agriculture minister, it is not possible to completely fence this area. Therefore, the infected area must first be reduced in size.
Sixth infection detected
The pigs in the infected area are currently being examined to see if they are infected with the virus. Based on this, the area can be reduced if necessary. While the investigation is ongoing, there will be a traffic ban in the area.
Meanwhile, a sixth boar has been diagnosed with African swine fever. The virus was not detected in 8 other carcasses examined. Five more carcasses are currently being examined.
