Almost everyone in the pig market hopes that the quotations for the pig and piglet market will soon find a bottom. Will that wish become reality this week?
In Germany, the pressure on the piglet price (the North/West quotation) remains in effect. Although last week's quotation (€29 per piglet) is unchanged, this week's trend points to a reduction (-€1). The reason for this is that supply is greater than demand.
Relatively many fattening pig farmers in Germany want to see developments first before introducing new piglets. This attitude is also noticeable in surrounding countries. For example, the Dutch export of piglets is experiencing negative effects, as our eastern neighbors are the most important buyer.
Also in Denmark
This is also currently the case in Denmark; This is evident from the change in the Danish piglet price, which will have to increase by more than €2 this week to €31,50 per piglet (up to 30 kilos, PRRS-free).
Domestic sales are also weak, traders say. The desired turnaround (as a result of a seasonally tighter supply) has not yet occurred. Nevertheless, the DCA BestPigletPrice remains at €24 per piglet.
Vion: no further reduction
The bottom on the pig market is increasingly coming into view. For example, Vion has left the quotation unchanged this week at €1,35 per kilo. The slaughterhouse speaks of a wide range and increasing slaughter weights. This means that sales on the meat market are still difficult.
A boost is that the hams and the middle part (the heavyweights in the pig carcass) are not falling further for the first time in weeks. This cannot yet be said of the front piece and the prosecutors.
