The Internet Exchange breaks the radio silence on the market this week; the quotation rose on Friday, November 2, by €0,04 to €1,46 per kilo, with all 10 lots being sold. It is a signal that slaughterhouses are asking for pigs again.

High slaughter figures
In recent weeks, pig prices have been counteracted by an ample supply that was sometimes difficult to place, partly due to broken weeks in Germany. The slaughter figures confirm this story, because last week there was again increasing slaughter figures and weights.

In the Netherlands, 317.000 pigs were slaughtered, the highest number since April. The slaughter weight increased by 0,2 kilos to 96,90 kilos. German slaughterhouses slaughtered 1.010.495 pigs last week, the fifth highest weekly number so far in 2018.

Pigs easily placed
The ample pig supply appears to be losing size, various pig traders report. In contrast to the previous weeks, the pigs are placed in a better position. The slaughterhouses accept the pigs more easily. The slaughterhouses also dare to freeze more meat now that the threat of an outbreak of African swine fever what has gone down.

At the same time, demand on the meat market is slowly recovering. The month of December is approaching and therefore trade is picking up. At the same time, this does not lead to price increases, slaughterhouses claim. There is more dynamism in the market again.

Higher Stock Price
All in all, pork prices appear to be on the rise. In any case, the DCA Exchange Prize 2.0 is definitely on the way up; the quotation for slaughtered pigs increases by €0,02 to €1,29 per kilo. The price of live pigs increases by 1 cent and amounts to €1,05 per kilo.
