The quotations on the piglet market are on the rise, mainly due to a tight supply.
At the same time, there will be a lot of placement space now that slaughterhouses are slaughtering pigs in abundance (in the run-up to Christmas), but this does not mean that there is also plenty of information. It is in particular the limited availability of piglets that ensures that the supply runs away easily.
German piglet price further up
The German piglet price (Nordwest) increased last week (week 47) by €1,50 to €32,50 per piglet. This week's trend report points to a further increase of $1 per piglet. In Germany, too, the increases are based on a tight supply.
The Spanish piglet price increased by €3 last week to €33 per piglet. However, the export to Spain is not going through a storm for the time being. This is partly because exporting to Spain involves strict and time-consuming hygiene protocols. This is due to the outbreak of African swine fever in Belgium.
All in all, sales on the market are going smoothly, but the resistance is increasing somewhat. Historically, quotes are likely to continue to rise for another 1 to 2 weeks, after which they will level off. This pattern seems to be repeating itself this year. The DCA BestPigletPrice increases by €2 to €32 per piglet.
Vion speaks of good sales
In the run-up to the holidays, Vion announces that there is good demand for various meat components. However, it does not lead to higher meat prices, so that the pig price (as expected) remains at €1,35 per kilo.
