Although there is still 1 full slaughter week ahead, the pressure on the pig price is building up. Can the DCA Scholarship 2.0 Hold Up?
Pig prices have been showing an extremely stable picture for weeks, which in a way made it boring. That period seems to be coming to an end as Christmas approaches. There will be no slaughter days in the coming week, but that does not alter the fact that the pigs will be difficult to place.
From next week, the meat processing industry will purchase significantly fewer parts, reducing the need to get the pigs to the slaughterhouse. It is also difficult to get rid of the meat between Christmas and New Year; the slaughterhouses indicate that the slaughtered pigs are therefore (partly) placed in the cold stores.
Lower sow prices
Sow prices have already shown a significant decline and there is a chance that pig prices will also follow this path. Opinions vary on whether or not pig prices will turn red next week. The hope is that the stable trend can be continued into 2019, but whether this will succeed remains to be seen. The behavior of the (German) slaughterhouses is unpredictable and there are a few difficult weeks ahead.
In any case, the DCA Exchange Price 2.0 does not start the downward trend, but remains at €1,28 per kilo for the slaughtered pigs. The price of live pigs amounts to €1,03 per kilo.
