Danish piglet export gains ground in Poland

Germany is no longer the main market for Danish piglets. This position is now occupied by Poland, as the country is importing considerably more Danish piglets this year.

In the first 3 quarters of 2018, the Danish pig sector exported a record 11,16 million piglets, an increase of 2,3% compared to the same period in 2017. However, sales to Germany showed a decrease of 2,8% to 4,94. 9,5 million piglets. Poland, on the other hand, imported almost 5% more Danish piglets; in total this concerns just over XNUMX million piglets.

This means that the country has surpassed Germany as the largest importer of Danish piglets. Sales to the Netherlands showed a slight decrease and amounted to 334.000 units. Moreover, Dutch piglet exports to Germany showed a decrease of 2,3% to 3,7 million (week 1 to week 45).

Fewer fattening pigs to Germany
The export of Danish fattening pigs shows an increase of 10% to 175.000 over the same period. Germany is by far the largest importer, but German imports fell by 17% to 72.3000 pigs. The fact that total Danish exports increased is a result of increasing exports to Spain, Belgium and Italy.

In addition to increasing exports, the slaughter figure in Denmark also shows a significant increase (+4). The increase on both fronts is a result of the pig herd, which has increased this year considerable growth has put down.
