The DCA BestPigletPrice (BPP) also increases in the last week before Christmas. This can be seen as a strong signal.
The fact that many pigs have been slaughtered in recent weeks is clearly noticeable on the piglet market. There is a lot of placement space available, which fattening pig farmers immediately fill with new piglets.
Good exports
Traders say they can easily place the piglets; not only in the Netherlands, but also in foreign markets. It is also not surprising that the German piglet price continues to rise. The North/West quotation recorded an increase of €1 to €35,50 per piglet in the past week and the trend for this week indicates a similar increase. Sales to Spain are also described as good, although the numbers of last year are not being achieved.
The resistance of fattening pig farmers is increasing, partly because piglet prices have been rising for weeks and partly because pig prices are lagging behind. Despite the increasing resistance, traders at DCA-Markets have once again opted for an increase in the DCA BestPigletPrice. The quotation increases by €1 to €36 per piglet.
Strong signal
The fact that both the German North/West and BPP (will) increase in week 51 can be seen as a strong signal. In recent years this did not happen, but was interrupted from week 50 until after New Year's Eve. Traders do note that demand is currently weakening somewhat, especially due to the holidays.
Vion: stable
The pig price at Vion remains at €1,35 per kilo. The slaughterhouse talks about a very wide range and high slaughter weights. It can be concluded from this that there is supply pressure. Meat sales will encounter logistical restrictions from the middle of this week, which is expected to put pressure on prices on various meat components (hams and middle cuts).
