The German pig price (the VEZG quotation) remained at €1,36 per kilo this week for the eleventh time in a row. This stable period in the fourth quarter of the year is usual, but this period is usually broken in the run-up to Christmas. However, this year the supply in recent weeks has always been too large to stir pig prices.

Logistical delay
From Wednesday December 19 to Wednesday January 2, the market will also be characterized by logistical delays. Many meat processing companies are (partially) shut down, which means that various parts cannot be removed from the slaughterhouses. At the same time, sales in the fresh segment to domestic retail continue. This creates challenges for many slaughterhouses.

Many pigs have been slaughtered in recent weeks, while the average slaughter weight has fallen. This does not alter the fact that the pig supply for the coming week is ample. Every trader has pigs left over and these are the recurring inconveniences at the end of a calendar year.

DCA Scholarship Price 2.0
The DCA Exchange Price 2.0 remains at €1,28 per kilo for the pigs slaughtered in the week of Christmas. The price of live pigs amounts to €1,03 per kilo.
