The Flemish government will support Flemish pig farmers financially. The government has released €2,88 million and will use that money to take over part of the subscription for Rendac.
The financial support is related to the outbreak of African swine fever in Belgium. Although there has not yet been an outbreak in Flanders, many Flemish pig farmers are in dire straits due to the animal disease. This is because the pork market is disrupted.
"The loss for pig farmers now amounts to €1 million to €1,5 million per week. Measures are needed to improve the liquidity position of those companies. That is why I am releasing €2,88 million so that I can can take over the annual subscription fee for the Rendac subscription," explains Joke Schauvliege, the Flemish Minister for the Environment, Nature. at felt.be.
Belgium and the virus
Belgium has been battling African swine fever since last September. More than 200 cases of the animal disease have already been found in wild boars. On the other hand, it has not yet been found on pig farms, partly as a result of the strict measures.
