Figures from Wageningen Economic Research (WUR) show that the price of pork chunks increased by €0,20 in December, closing the year at €26,25 per 100 kilos. The prices of sow pellet gestation and sow pellet lakto showed a smaller increase; the price of sow pellet pregnancy increased by €0,05 to €26,25 per 100 kilos and sow pellet lakto by €0,10 to €30,70 per 100 kilos.

It is expected that pork prices will level off in the coming months, although the price may rise slightly further in the short term. The compound feed price indicator does not foresee any major price increases until May 2019.

Commodity prices mainly stable
The feed raw materials market has been relatively quiet in recent weeks. This is also because the water levels have returned to normal levels due to the above-average rainfall. This has resolved the logistics problems in the physical market.

The wheat quotation on the Matif in Paris did not show any major jumps in December and was quoted between €200 and €210 per tonne; at New Year's Eve this was €205 per tonne. The corn price (EU-Rotterdam) also shows little change and fluctuates between €170 and €180 per tonne.

The soy price on the CBoT in Chicago did show a decline in December. In week 50 the price was still at $338 per tonne, after which it fell to $319 between Christmas and New Year. Although 2019 has started with an increase. The closing price on Tuesday, January 2 was $328 per tonne. This increase was caused by alleged purchasing interest from China.
