White zone must keep AVP out of France

15 January 2019 - Tim Roetman

The French Ministry of Agriculture has announced the establishment of 'a white zone'. In this zone, which is close to the Belgian border, all wild boars may be shot. This is to prevent the spread of African swine fever to France.

There were Wednesday 9 January 2 infected wild boars found about 1 kilometer from the French border. To ensure that African swine fever does not spread to France, the ministry has now announced a white zone.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture reports that a fence is being built, in order to create a physical border. This should ensure that the infected animals leave the country NOT ALLOWED can reach.

Export issues
If the virus does spread to France, the country will have difficulty exporting pork. The Philippines has already announced that it will not import meat from countries where African swine fever has been found, including Belgium.
