The year 2019 starts with an increase in the pork chunk price. Chunk prices were on the rise in almost all months in 2018, and that will not change in January 2019. What is the expectation for the coming months?
Figures from Wageningen Economic Research show that the price of pork chunks increased by €0,15 in January to €26,40 per 100 kilos. This makes it the fifteenth month in a row that the price has risen. The trend in the quotations for fattening pig pellets and sow pellets pregnancy are exactly the same this month.
The price for sow pellets has increased by €0,15 to €26,40 per 100 kilos. Sow pellet lakto shows a smaller increase (+€0,05) to €30,75 per 100 kilos. Based on compound feed price indicator it can be said that relatively stable feed prices are expected in the coming months.
Increase in raw materials market
Prices for soybeans and grain corn have risen in January. The closing price of the CBoT in Chicago was $30 per ton on Wednesday, January 338. This represents an increase of $10 compared to the end of December.
The corn price (EU-Rotterdam) showed an increase of €10 in January. The price was €30 per ton on Wednesday, January 182. The wheat price remained relatively stable at the Matif in Paris between €203 and €207 per tonne. The closing price on Wednesday, January 30 was €206. The expectation is that the stable price level will continue.
