Piglet prices in Europe have been showing a consistent picture for weeks now. While the supply is slowly increasing, it doesn't look like the uptrend in the near term...
The piglet market is still characterized by scarcity, although the low point seems to be behind us. Various traders report an increasing seasonal supply. However, this does not alter the fact that based on the most recent CBS figures much fewer piglets are expected compared to other years.
Rising odds
Due to the increasing allowances, there are still calls in the Netherlands for higher piglet quotations. The DCA BestPigletPrice increases this week by €1 to €43,50 per piglet. However, this is €4,50 lower than the same week in 2018; then the quotation continued to rise until the end of March, after which a stable period followed.
In Germany, supply remains tight compared to demand. That is why fattening pig farmers still have to be patient before they receive the desired batch. The Nordwest quotation has increased by €1 to €43 per piglet; the trend report for this week provides a plus of €0,50. The market situation may differ slightly per German state.
Pig price Vion
Vion's pig price remains at €1,43 per kilo. The slaughterhouse speaks of unchanged market conditions compared to last week; At that time there was a large supply of pigs and predominantly flat meat prices.
