The pig market has had a few memorable weeks, with prices gaining a lot of ground. What does the DCA Stock Price 2.0 do for next week?
The German pig price (the VEZG quotation) raised the bar even higher in week 15, increasing by €0,03 to €1,73 per kilo. That price level is in stark contrast to the €1,40 that was recently on the plates. The aftertaste of a few wild weeks is that the foundation has been laid for good pig prices.
Few pigs ready for slaughter
The number of pigs ready for slaughter in Germany is still sparse. This is confirmed by the declining slaughter figure. In the past week, the slaughter figure reached a new low: 890.021 pigs, with an average weight of 97,99 kilos. This is almost the same as the same week last year, but then 1 day of slaughter was canceled due to Easter.
Easter is now approaching again. On Easter Monday (Easter Monday), activities in European slaughterhouses are at a lower level, which means that supply is likely to increase again; especially because German slaughterhouses sometimes do not slaughter on Good Friday. On Wednesday, May 1, 'Labor Day' is celebrated in Germany and then there is also less sex.
This means that the German slaughterhouses will slow down a notch over the next 3 weeks, resulting in an increase in supply. From the pig farmer's perspective, it is nice that Easter is late this year, which has not disrupted the price rally of recent weeks.
price rally
There was also a price rally in the Netherlands in recent weeks. Although one slaughterhouse took action a little later than the other, there was still a significant increase from €0,37 (excluding VAT) to €0,38 (including VAT). However, the increase was easily kept up with meat sales, although the increase did result in a moderate pork supply. The supply of pigs will increase in the coming week, partly because slaughterhouses need less.
The DCA Exchange Price 2.0 for slaughtered pigs increases by €0,03 to €1,65 and for live pigs a price increase of €0,02 will be implemented. This brings the price for live pigs to €1,34.
