The first signs after Easter indicate that pig prices cannot resume their upward trend immediately. What about piglet prices?
In Germany, the demand for piglets remains good. The cancellation of several slaughter days around Easter apparently does not affect this. The VEZG piglet price increases this week by €1,50 to €60 per piglet. This change is also the trend report for the North/West piglet price.
Opinions divided
There are some mixed reactions from the Netherlands. Some traders speak of increased seasonal supply and leveling off demand. Due to the cancellation of slaughter days, there is less placement space. Demand from Spain is also declining somewhat. Some traders argue for unchanged or a slight increase.
The other traders still speak of wild demand and opt for further increases, also to prevent further rising surcharges. Despite the divided view of traders, the DCA BestPigletPrice (based on more than 20 quotes at DCA Markets) notes an increase from €1 to €57 per piglet.
Vion's performance remains unchanged
Pig prices have not yet started the upward trend after Easter. The Internet Exchange stabilized on Tuesday April 16 at €1,79 per kilo. Vion also leaves the quotation unchanged at €1,80 per kilo. The meat company speaks of unchanged circumstances compared to last week. In short, this means resistance from the meat processing industry and a normal pig supply.
