The supply of piglets is noticeably wider. On the other hand, piglet prices, including the DCA BestPigletPrice, are still looking up.
Traders report a wider supply, which is also in line with the seasonal cycle. Due to the cancellation of several slaughter days, the flow has stagnated, causing delivery weights to increase further. Demand from Dutch fattening pig farmers was, is and will probably remain good in the coming weeks. However, resistance to the increased piglet prices is increasing, now that pig prices are taking a standstill.
German listing plus further
Piglet exports to Germany remain good, due to shortages. The German piglet price (the VEZG quotation) therefore increases by €1 to €61 per piglet. The North/West piglet price has also not yet reached its ceiling. The trend report for this week indicates an increase of €1 per piglet, after the quotation last week already added €1,50 to €60 per piglet. Spanish demand has weakened somewhat in recent weeks. This is also reflected in the Spanish piglet price, which remained the same last week at €53 per piglet.
Vion's pig price this week remains at €1,80 per kilo, as expected. Although pig prices are not (yet) rising further, a number of traders have opted for an increase in the DCA BestPigletPrice. This is to keep the surcharges somewhat within limits.
Plus for BPP
There are also traders who argue for unchanged. On balance, however, the statements to DCA Markets indicate an increase from €0,50 to €57,50 per piglet.
