Piglets are still being pushed hard from Germany and Dutch piglet exports are also benefiting from this. German prices have now passed the €60 mark and the ceiling has not yet been reached. The German VEZG quotation, which is a predecessor of the Nord/West piglet price, increases this week by €1 to €62 per piglet.

Germany is mainly an importing country, which means that the piglet shortage will last longer there. The stable pig prices do mean that piglet prices are slowing down compared to the previous weeks.

BPP is leveling off
The demand from Spain, on the other hand, is flat; Moreover, Spaniards are expressing resistance to the increased piglet prices. A few weeks ago, the Spanish pig integration companies still offered (well) above the quotations, but that is no longer the case.

In the Netherlands, the limit of €60 per piglet is currently too high for the DCA BestPigletPrice. The quotation remains at €57,50 per piglet. The piglet price in Denmark, which is also an exporting piglet country, has also leveled off at €67 per piglet (of 30 kilos).

Meat sales are difficult
Vion's pig price is €1,80 per piglet for the fourth week in a row. According to the slaughterhouse, the pig supply is in line with demand, which is still a consequence of Easter. Meat sales are difficult; Sales of hams, prosciuttos and bacon in particular are under pressure. According to Vion, European pig prices are too high to compete well with other exporters in Asia.
