The authorities in Bulgaria confirmed last week that another case of African swine fever had been found. This is what Reuters news agency writes on its website on Friday 5 July.
It concerns an outbreak at a so-called 'backyard farm' in the Novachene region, which is located in the north of the country. The Bulgarian authorities also confirmed 4 cases of African swine fever in this region on Thursday 2 July. Those 2 outbreaks were also found among 'backyard farmers'.
To further spread To prevent this, it has been decided that all pigs in the Novachene region should be culled. A quarantine area of 3 kilometers around the village will also be established.
A problem worldwide
African swine fever is now a worldwide problem. Last week, for example, it was revealed that the countries in Asia together already have more than 4 milion culled animals. This also seems to have major consequences for the pig population in these countries. Rabobank expect, for example, that China's pig herd could decline by 20% to 70%.
Wild boars with the virus were also found in Belgium last week. Therefore, the Belgian authorities have decided to the surveillance area to expand again.
