Pig prices usually make a profit when the weather conditions are nice. This week, however, has been too hot to unleash any impulses.
Despite a slowdown in growth, the pig supply is more than a week past. Due to the heat protocols, the necessary loads have to be shifted. This means that the supply will be sufficiently large for next week, various traders indicate.
Holiday period at meat market
The hot weather is also not conducive to meat consumption. Meat sales have even declined. The holiday period is mainly to blame for this, because various meat processors are simply short of raw materials. In short: the heat is more intoxicating than helping pork prices.
It is therefore not surprising that the German pig price remained the same this week at €1,74 per kilo. This is almost 20 cents above the 5-year average. The pig price has not been this high at this time of year since 2013.
Still a few tough weeks
Tropical weather will make way for next week changeable weather. This will probably also reduce the growth slowdown. As long as it is the holiday period, it will probably continue to be tough weeks. Especially because sales outside Europe are also somewhat more difficult. China in particular is reluctant to contract large volumes at relatively high prices.
The DCA Exchange Price 2.0 therefore remains at €1,63 per kilo for slaughtered pigs. The price of live pigs is unchanged at €1,31 per kilo.
