The prices for chunks of pork fell again in July, according to new figures from Wageningen Economic Research. The compound feed price indicator of Boerenbusiness show though...
The price of pork chunks fell by €0,30 in July to €24,65 per 100 kilos. The price of baby piglet pellets also showed a decrease last month: -€0,30 to €35,65 per 100 kilos. Over the past 3 months, this product has fallen by €1,40. The price of starting/transition grain fell from €28,90 in June to €28,55 per 100 kilos in July (-€0,35).
The price decreases for sow pellets, pregnancy and lakto are somewhat more moderate. The prices of these products drop by €0,10 to €24,80 and €29,10 per 100 kilos respectively. Moreover, the price drops appear to have come to an end. The compound feed price indicator shows that a relatively stable price is expected in the coming months. This is partly due to the fact that the lower raw material prices have now been discounted in the bulk prices.
Movement in commodity prices
Although there are concerns about the drought in Europe and Russia, wheat prices are not (yet) responding immediately. This is because closing stocks are currently relatively large. In addition, most crops are in good general condition, which means that the harvest forecast good is. In Russia, the expected wheat harvest has been adjusted downwards, although a good yield is still expected.
The weather conditions will influence the direction of commodity prices until September at least. This makes it difficult to predict in the longer term which direction chunk prices will take.
