The piglet market is in balance with regard to the relationship between supply and demand. The seasonal supply is growing, but on the other hand ...
Despite the pig prices have leveled off slightly, domestic demand for piglets remains intact. All loose heads also land on their feet, proverbially. This while the export demand to Spain and Eastern Europe has weakened somewhat.
There is also a balance in Germany. The VEZG piglet price remains at €57 per piglet. The fattening pig farmers there are generally well prepared to impose new piglets quickly after the finishers have been delivered. This supports Dutch exports.
Growing offer
We are in a time of growing seasonal supply. In previous years, the piglet price was at the crossroads during this period: down or sideways. For the time being, there is no pressure building on the quotations. The DCA BestPigletPrice thus stabilizes at €45,50 per piglet.
Vion unchanged
Vion leaves the pig price at €1,93 per kilo. Compared to a few weeks ago, the tight supply has improved considerably, Vion also notes. There is resistance to the increased meat prices in Europe, but sales in China are continuing well.
