The piglet market has come into better balance in September, although October will probably still be a weak month in terms of sales.
Because there are a lot of pigs are slaughtered (also on Saturdays), the space available for piglets increases. Due to the stable and high pig prices, the willingness for new production is excellent. Although it is sometimes difficult to find a buyer for free piglets, this only concerns a relatively small part of the market.
The German quotations easily hold at a level of €57 per piglet. There is a balance between supply and demand. The month of October is generally a weak month for piglet prices. The high German piglet price may therefore be heading for a correction.
Positive market
The fundamentals on the European market are positive. Pig prices are trading at a high level and will probably receive support in the coming months due to good sales opportunities in China. The sow herd is almost finished all major pig countries shrank sharply in the eurozone.
