DCA-Markets, part of DCA Groep, will start publishing weekly price movements of pork components from Monday 14 October. The aim of this is to bring more transparency into the meat chain.
This means that the price developments of all important parts of the pig, such as the hams, ribs, necks and shoulders, are published by DCA-Markets on Monday afternoon. The changes are provided by a panel consisting of slaughterhouses, wholesalers and buyers and sellers.
Transparency in the chain
DCA-Markets already publishes the DCA BestPigletPrice (piglets) and the DCA Beursprijs 2.0 (fattening pigs) on a weekly basis, and the pork components are now added to this. According to René van 't Riet of DCA-Markets, this makes the entire chain more transparent. In addition, market parties are given the opportunity to settle contracts on this basis.
Meat mutations are also relevant information for pig farmers, Van 't Riet expects. "That way they get a glimpse into the chain. The meat prices say something about the raw material value of the pig."
Shade period from August
Since August, the meat mutations have been composed in the background. According to Van 't Riet, the quotations have made the first steps. "We have done this consciously in order to be able to get off to a well-founded start from mid-October." In addition to pigs, piglets and meat components, DCA Markets also makes quotations for dairy, potatoes, carrots, phosphate rights and manure, among other things.
The meat quotations are part of the Pigs & Feed subscription. Click here for more information.
