Animal activists have been blocking access to one of the slaughter locations of the German meat company Tönnies since Monday morning, October 21.
It is estimated that about 20 activists from the 'Tear Down Tönnies' action group have blocked the slaughter site in Kellinghusen (in the Schleswig-Holstein region). The group draws attention to animal welfare, the environment and the rights of workers in the slaughterhouse sector.
Slaughter activities have been discontinued as a result of the raid. The police are trying to lift the blockade. About 70 employees work at the slaughter location. Several thousand pigs are slaughtered every day.
