Thanks to a not too wide range, the undertone in the piglet market can improve further. The DCA BestPigletPrice (BPP) is meanwhile not far from the €50 per piglet limit.
The piglet trade continues smoothly. We are now in the middle of autumn, but that does not or hardly slow down demand. This is due to the fact that pig prices easily maintain a high level. The odds also tend to look upwards rather than downwards.
Spain more on the market
The supply of piglets is not extensive, which is a logical consequence of the shrunken sow herd in many European countries. Sales in the Netherlands have been going well for some time and now foreign markets are also entering the market. The traders report that Spanish integrations are showing increasing interest. The Spanish piglet price, which increases by €1 to €39,50 per piglet, also demonstrates this.
The improving market sentiment is causing surcharges to rise again left and right. To counter this development, many traders at DCA Markets are opting for higher piglet prices. That is why the BPP increases by €1 to €48,50 per piglet. Historically, the piglet price continues to look upwards in the coming weeks.
Meat prices up
Vion's pig price remains stable at €1,93 per kilo. The slaughterhouse speaks of smooth sales outside Europe. China in particular is on the market, although that can no longer be a secret. According to the company, sales in Europe are slowing down.
However, this is not so evident from the prices of the meat components that DCA Markets has recently recorded. For example, the procured meats increased by €0,10, while the bellies, hams and ribs also increased significantly in value.
