Vion's pig price has barely reached the magical limit of €2 per kilo.
This week the slaughterhouse is increasing the quotation by €0,05 to €1,98 per kilo, following the movement that the DCA Scholarship Price 2.0 made last Friday. Never before has the pig price been so high. In recent weeks, Vion recorded €1,93 per kilo, equaling the record in 2012 and 2013.
Major meat shortage
The meat company attributes the increase to good meat sales. The global meat shortage will reach 2020 million tons in 20, according to Rabobank forecasts. The African swine fever epidemic in China is the reason for this. The self-described extensive pig supply can therefore be well valued.
