China opens door to Brazilian offal

6 November 2019 - Wouter Baan

In the fight against the rising meat shortage, China has opened the door for Brazilian offal. The Asian country has approved 7 slaughterhouses in Brazil to ship those products.

Brazil was already allowed to export pork to China, although offal was not yet allowed. China has now authorized several slaughterhouses for this and this week JBS shipped a container with 400 tons of offal. The slaughterhouse did not want to disclose the underlying value of this party.

Due to the outbreaks of African swine fever, China is facing huge meat shortages. That is why new import markets are being tapped. This is how the Dutch slaughterhouse received gosschalk also an export license, while also some British slaughterhouses have recently been approved.
