Although the average pig price in the Netherlands is still well above last year, the foot has been taken off the gas this week. The pig price in the Netherlands remains stable this week at €1,914 per kilo. This puts it in fourth place in the ISN price comparison. Slightly lower (in fifth place) is Denmark, which has shown a huge decline this week. The pig price in that country drops by €0,040 to €1,910 per kilo.

The other European countries in the ISN price comparison do show a price increase. For example, the French pig price will increase by €0,001 to €1,904 per kilo and the Spanish pork price by €0,021 to €1,980 per kilo. Germany posted the largest increase this week: +€0,030 to €1,976 per kilo. This puts the country in second place, just below Spain. In Belgium, the pig price rose this week by €0,025 to €1,865 per kilo. With this increase, the country is slowly coming close to other European pig prices.

Standardization on the market?
The situation on the pig market now appears to be improving normalize. Christmas is fast approaching and the good demand for meat is expected to remain in place until then. On the other hand, the supply of pigs ready for slaughter is increasing somewhat, causing pig prices to level off somewhat in some places. This wider range in the Netherlands is partly due to: stoppers  who must have their stables empty before 2020.

China continues to demand enormous volumes of pork on the global market. However, it is a major setback for European pork exporters that China has (partially) lifted tariffs on American pork. will delete. As a result, these exporters lose their competitive advantage. The effects of this are likely to become apparent in the short to medium term.
