The rapidly falling pig price does not have a positive effect on the piglet market, which has few surpluses in terms of numbers, but is still running smoothly.
In terms of supply/demand ratio, the piglet market will become increasingly better balanced at the beginning of 2020. The range is not necessarily wide. However, there is a lack of lively demand, in the sense that fattening pig farmers are expressing considerable resistance.
In their view, the high piglet price does not correspond to the rapidly falling pig price. Vion is also lowering the quotation this week, by €0,07 to €1,87 per kilo. The slaughterhouse reports strong meat sales, both in Europe and China. The range of meat pigs is extensive.
German quote the same, BPP down
Despite the troubles on the pig market, the German quotation apparently remains stable at €71 per kilo. Demand is good on the domestic German market (unlike in the Netherlands). The selection is also not large.
Dutch traders opt for the DCA BestPigletPrice in different ways. Some argue for unchanged, others for a significant reduction. The quotation drops this week by €1 to €61,50 per piglet.
