The latest outlook for the price development of chunks of pork predicted an increase. This ties in with the pig chunk prices published by Wageningen Economic Research (WUR) for January. The upward trend is expected to continue.
In January, all pork chunks became more expensive compared to December. The price of sow pellets rose the fastest, with €0,50 to €24,65 per 100 kilos. This is also €0,49 higher than the 5-year average. The price of sow pellets lacto also shows a significant increase from €0,40 to €28,85. This is also higher than the 5-year average.
The prices of fattening pig chunks, piglet pellets and starter/transition pellets increased by €0,25 to €23,90, €27,95 and €35,80 per 100 kilos, respectively. These 3 prices are below the 5-year average.
Price increases continue
According to the compound feed price indicator van Boerenbusiness the price of pork chunks will remain stable until at least July 2020. However, the uncertainty factor is quite high, as anything can still happen on the raw materials markets. With current knowledge, it is expected that the pork chunk price will have increased by more than 5% in July compared to the current level. This is mainly a response to rising wheat prices in the second half of 2019.
