Overijssel pumps a ton into a mobile slaughterhouse

26 February 2020 - Chanti Oussoren - 3 comments

The Mobiel Slachten cooperative has been allocated €100.000 from the province of Overijssel for the development of the first mobile pig slaughterhouse in the Netherlands.

The idea behind the mobile slaughterhouse is that it comes to the farm, so that the live transport of pigs is avoided. The total financing of the project has not yet been completed and that is why the cooperative is trying, with the help of Bionext, to collect part of the required project through a crowdfunding campaign. The intention is to raise another €55.000 with this crowdfunding campaign. 25% of this amount has already been collected.

Stopping slaughterhouses
According to the advisory committee, the project is a positive development for animal welfare and the quality of the meat. This is in line with public opinion to better regulate the slaughter of animals. It also responds to the trend that more and more small slaughterhouses are closing their doors. This increases the transport distances in practice. The cooperative is still looking for a slaughterhouse to collaborate with within the project.

A hopeless mission, wasted money. Governments apparently have enough, now the common sense, it is quite lacking lately.
