The sale of piglets is not disappointing given the circumstances, but the DCA BestPigletPrice is being called back this week. Following on from other quotations, Vion is also lowering ...
The price pressure on the pig market has spread to the piglet market, a trend that was expected. The resistance of fattening pig farmers to the (in their view) high piglet prices increased considerably over the course of last week. But considering the circumstances surrounding the marketing of piglets, this is not opposed, traders indicate. The DCA BestPigletPrice decreases by €2 to €61 per piglet based on the specifications.
German market
The German piglet price (VEZG) is the same at €76. For the time being, the pressure can be absorbed by tinkering with the allowances. In addition, the supply of piglets is not extensive and fattening pig farmers are quite quick to stock up. This is a result of the significant decline in the German sow herd in recent years.
However, a reduction in the German piglet price cannot be ruled out in the short term, as the pressure on the German pig price continues. This is also evident from today's Internet fair. The auction quotation drops by €0,05 to €1,89 per kilo, with 5 of the 12 lots having been traded. The day after Easter, the supply of pigs ready for slaughter is ample and the meat market remains weak. The DCA meat mutations show that the middle part and bellies in particular (-4 cents) are under pressure.
Pig price Vion
Vion is lowering the pig price this week by €0,06 to €1,89 per kilo. The meat company speaks of stable sales to retail and virtually stagnant sales to food service. Moreover, American competition, which is cheaper on paper, is emerging in sales markets outside Europe.
