As in recent weeks, Vion mentions a 'laundry list' of factors why sales are not going smoothly. Due to the lockdown, demand for luxury meat parts is very weak, especially in Southern Europe, where demand should normally be picking up at this time of year due to the influx of tourists. 

This is also evident from this week's DCA meat changes, with hams losing as much as 17 cents per kilo. The ribs, shoulders and shoulders also drop like a stone.

Large range of poultry meat 
According to Vion, there is fierce competition on the world market from the US, which also has a price advantage on paper, looking at pig prices. This week, the pig slaughterhouse also specifically mentions the increasing competition from poultry meat on the Asian sales market, now that chicken slaughterhouses are also eagerly looking for sales opportunities.
