Trump demands slaughterhouses open immediately

29 April 2020 - Wouter Baan - 1 reaction

US President Donald Trump wants slaughterhouses to resume work immediately for fear of a possible meat shortage. The unions disagree.

According to Trump, slaughterhouses fulfill a crucial link in the food supply and so it would be allowed to open again. The president seems to be responding to the full-page advertisement of meat processor Tyson Foods in 'The Post' that warned about empty shelves. The unions reject Trump's demand. They say it is not responsible, because human lives are at stake.

Meanwhile, the situation has become almost untenable. With many large slaughterhouses closed for weeks, hundreds of thousands of animals cannot be slaughtered. Pig and poultry farmers have started with the clearing of animals to create stable space.

Trump fears that a food shortage will lead to internal war, which is certainly not inconceivable. People then rob and loot and then do things that are normally unthinkable. A country that can feed its own people through its own production is a rich country, in our society there are currently groups that think differently about it and believe that we can get almost everything from abroad, they are wrong, we see now with these corona crises, there have been no empty shelves in the last 40 years but already within a week, what will that be like if there are in Ned. half the animals leave, should we eat tree leaves, I don't know, but then the civil war is also in sight. We can be happy that there are still 35000 farmers who feed 17 million people, each farmer has 485 people sitting at the table whom he or she feeds, then you are very busy with that. Have a lot of respect for this.
