The rapidly falling pig prices are pulling piglet prices in their wake. The DCA BestPigletPrice even dips below the 5-year average.
Much has already been written about the situation. The bottom line is: fattening pig farmers have no confidence in the market and are therefore very reluctant to stock new piglets. The tension is high, traders indicate.
Significant reduction in Vion listing
This week Vion lowers the quotation by no less than 13 cents to €1,65 per kilo. Meat sales within Europe are slow and on the world market, cheap American competition is outdoing European exporters, the slaughterhouse comments.
And although slaughterhouses are cutting back on quotations, the price gap with the US remains almost unbridgeable. Converted, the American pig price (Iowa/Minnesota) is a paltry €0,80 per kilo.
DCA BestPigletPrice drops sharply
Piglet prices are also plummeting. The German VEZG quotation drops this week by €5 to €62 per piglet. And that probably hasn't reached the bottom yet. In the Netherlands, traders opt for a significant reduction for the DCA BestPigletPrice, which therefore decreases by €8,50 for €46,50 per piglet. Never before has the price fallen so sharply, which means it has been below the 5-year average for some time now.
