This brings the number of Danish pigs to 12,7 million. The number of piglets increased by 5,7% to almost 2,7 million. The number of pregnant sows also increased sharply, by 4% to 785.000. The pig supply is more extensive this summer, as the number of fattening pigs over 50 kilos increased by 6,1% to 2,89 million. The number of fattening pigs below this limit increased by 4,2% to almost 6 million head.
Growth continues
The figures are based on a sample of approximately 2.000 pig farms, but are nevertheless representative of the whole. Compared to the official count in January, growth continues, which is mainly a result of the better prices in 2019. Growth is expected to increase significantly in the further course of 2020 and the first half of 2021.
