Slaughterhouses across Germany have started testing their employees for possible corona infections. Both Tönnies and Westfleisch reported that of the 3.100 employees tested, none have tested positive for the corona virus.
After the mass infections in American slaughterhouses and in a Westfleisch slaughter site in Coesfeld, Germany, other German slaughterhouses left nothing to chance. To ensure that slaughter locations are not classified as fire sources, Tönnies, Westfleisch and Vion have started testing their employees for the corona virus.
No infections
At the Tönnies slaughter site in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, no employees were tested positive for a corona infection. Although not all test results are known yet, at least 800 tests came back negative. According to Tönnies, this is not a reason to relax the corona measures. The company even comes up with a 14-point hygiene concept stating how and who they test and how they coordinate the situation within the company.
Westfleisch also tested the employees in the meat factories in Hamm, Gelsenkirchen, Lübbecke and Bakum for corona contamination. Where the company tested positive for corona at 200 employees at the Coesfeld location at the beginning of the week, the tests of the employees at the other 4 locations all came back negative. In total, about 2.300 employees were tested outside of Coesfeld.
Vion
At the Vion location in Hilden (North Rhine-Westphalia), 1 employee was tested positive for the corona virus. A total of 219 tests were taken, so there is no question of a seat of fire in this case. According to a spokesperson for the Mettmann region, the infected employee does not live in this region.
