News meat ban

China puts more slaughterhouses on banned list

6 July 2020 - Wouter Baan - 1 reaction

Last weekend, another 2 Brazilian slaughterhouses were banned from exporting pork to China. Dutch slaughterhouses are also faced† An inquiry with the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) shows that China has filed a formal request for camera inspection.

The export ban now also applies to locations of JBS and BRF, both 2 major Brazilian meat concerns. This means that it is now impossible for 6 Brazilian slaughterhouses to export pork to China. Officially, the meat companies have heard nothing from China, only that the locations are mentioned on a customs list.

Status still the same
The same customs list also contains the names of Vion (location Groenlo and Boxtel), Van Rooi and Westfort (location Gorinchem). The Ministry of Agriculture says it is working hard to undo the ban, but it has not yet come to that.

A spokesman for LNV says that at the request of China, the Netherlands is organizing a video inspection in one of the slaughterhouses. The Central Organization for the Meat Sector (COV) also released last week know that China is pushing for camera surveillance in Dutch slaughterhouses.
