Danish scientific research shows that pigs do not get sick from the coronavirus COVID-19. The study is consistent with previously published results of Chinese research.
This is what Mogens Jensen, the Danish minister of food, says after questions from the Danish House of Representatives. The Danish food service Fødevarestyrelsen has consulted experts from both the University of Copenhagen and the National Serum Institute. These experts state that two independent scientific experimental studies have shown that pigs are resistant to the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19, writes Landsbladet.dk.
No evidence of infection
The experts say the studies are supported by the fact that, despite widespread pig-human contact, the coronavirus has never been detected in pigs. "The experts find no evidence that the virus can infect pigs," the minister writes in the letter to parliament. Because of these results of scientific research, the Danish government does not conduct random research into the contamination of pigs with the corona virus.
In China, research was conducted on 5 pigs, 40 days old, who were vaccinated with the coronavirus in the nose. They were placed in the same room as 3 other pigs and it was subsequently found that neither group was infected. The Chinese study was conducted by the State Key Laboratory of Veterinary Biotechnology and the National High Containment Laboratory for Animal Disease Control and Prevention.
