Restart Tönnies Rheda-Wiedenbrück with protest

16 July 2020 - Jorine Cosse

At the Tönnies location in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, the slaughter lines were dusted today after being closed for 4 weeks. Greenpeace supporters apparently did not want to let this moment pass unheard of and placed a 100 square meter banner in the building calling for the destruction of the pig sector.

The rise of the animal activists is somewhat special. They landed with motorized paragliders on the roof of the factory, and then attached the huge banner to the facade. The message is clear: 'Schluss mit dem Scheinesystem', in other words: 'Down with the pig sector'.

counterprotest
It is logical that the protest is not appreciated. Advocate 'Land schafft Schakelung – Deutschland' (LsV) therefore calls for a counter-protest. LsV asks the livestock farmers in the region to come to the factory in large numbers with tractors. After all, it is an attack on the existence of livestock farming, which is thereby put at risk.

The protest coincides with the reopening of the Tönnies location after it had to keep its doors closed for 4 weeks due to a major corona outbreak among employees. Also for tomorrow afternoon there is another protest on the agenda at the entrance gate of the Tönnies factory, both by Greenpeace and by the German farmers.
