For a while, Danish Crown seemed to escape a closure of its slaughterhouse in Ringsted, but that has completely turned around now that the corona outbreak turns out to be more extensive than expected. Where at the first mention 'only' a handful of employees tested positive, that number has now risen to 150 employees.
For that reason, the meat giant has decided to close the slaughterhouse from today (August 10) for at least a week. The first report of a corona infection was made 2 weeks ago. The company does report that the outbreak is now under control, but Danish Crown wants to limit the risk of more infections as much as possible.
Quarantine
At the first report, the Danish meat company immediately switched to testing. Although the results appeared to be not too bad, the cutting department where the infected employees worked was closed. This left 30 employees at home, who had to be quarantined. With the closure of the entire location, another 800 employees will have to stay at home. It is unknown whether they will also have to be quarantined, but with a closure of 'only' a week that seems unlikely. This given the quarantine time of 2 weeks.
