DCA piglet index continues to lose ground

10 August 2020 - Chanti Oussoren

The DCA piglet index has lost ground again in recent weeks and has fallen further. The fattening pig index, on the other hand, has started to recover.

The piglet index has been declining since the beginning of the year and has rapidly lost ground. This has also not changed in recent weeks and the index has again fallen lower. The index has since fallen back to 57,5 points in week 32. The level is even only half the level of last year when the number of points was 113.3 in the same period.

The fattening pig index has taken a positive step and has risen in recent weeks. This increase is due to the reopening of the German slaughterhouse Tönnies, which has provided some relief to the pig market. Since week 28, the index has increased by 14,4 points, respectively, to a point total of 127,1 in week 32. The index is still below the level achieved in week 27 when the point total was 133,6.

It is expected that the fattening pig index will increase further in the coming weeks. The piglet index, on the other hand, will not rise immediately in the coming weeks, but will gradually increase in the longer term.
