Danish meat giant Danish Crown plans to partially reopen its abattoir in Ringsted after it was forced to close due to corona infections among its staff.
The production location in Ringsted closed completely on August 10, after it turned out that 150 employees out of a total of 850 employees had been infected with the virus. The company plans to restart the slaughterhouse from August 21. The location will run at a maximum of half its capacity.
Awaiting test results
Danish Crown reports that the number of new infections has decreased significantly. At the beginning of this week, a large number of employees were tested for the second time. When these results are known, it will be decided definitively whether the slaughter location will open its doors again on Friday. The local authorities are allowing the reopening pending the results of the tests taken.
Under normal circumstances, approximately 62.000 pigs were slaughtered at the slaughterhouse. Until the site is back to full capacity, other Danish Crown facilities will continue to offset processing. Exports to China have been temporarily halted, the group reports.
