The decline in pork prices continues for the third month in a row. Just like last month, the piglet pellet price is falling the fastest. After a decrease of €0,20, this stands at €35,70 per 100 kilos of chunks for August. The starter/transition pellet and the pork chunks both decrease by €0,15, resulting in €28,50 and €24,30 per 100 kilos respectively. A falling price at this time of year is no exception, every year a price dip is seen at the end of the summer.

Sow chunks
The two sow chunks drop the least compared to the other chunks. The price of sow pellet lakto will decrease by €0,10 and end at €29,45 per 100 kilos for August. The sow pellet pregnancy decreases by €0,05 to €25,15 per 100 kilos. Despite the fact that the lakto sow pellet started its decline later, the trend is somewhat stable. Compared to last year, the decline is slower.

Forecast and commodity prices
The raw material prices obviously influence the price changes of the pork chunks. In July, prices of wheat, soy and feed barley, among others, fell. It will take several weeks before this drop in the price of raw materials is reflected in the chunk price. The prices of the raw materials mentioned have now started to rise again. The decline in bulk prices is therefore not expected to last long.

Looking at the Boerenbusiness Compound feed price indicator is this assumption correct. At the moment, the forecast for September is equal to the 10-year average. The price is expected to rise again from then on. Raw material prices have shown an increase again since this month. While European feed wheat yielded €12 per ton on August 185, it was already €26 per ton on August 190. Feed barley still yielded €167 per tonne at the beginning of August, but this has now also risen to around €26 per tonne on August 170.
