Drought causes a dip in liquid feed sales

1 September 2020 - Chanti Oussoren

Less liquid feed was delivered in the Netherlands in 2019 than in previous years, the Consultation Group for Producers Wet Veevoeders (OPNV) stated in a press release.

The OPNV annually compiles an overview of the quantities of moist animal feeds sold in the Netherlands. These products are produced in the Netherlands or within a limited distance of the national borders.

In total, 4,925 million tons of moisture-rich animal feed was delivered last year. As a result, sales fall through the 2008 million tons mark for the first time since 5. The lower sales are driven by a lower harvest as a result of the very dry summer at the time, which meant that fewer potatoes and beets were processed.

Splitting pigs and cattle
The amount of moisture-rich feed materials in the daily ration of Dutch pigs was a total of 2019 million tons in 2,7. 2,23 million tons of moisture-rich animal feeds were sold in cattle farming. The most important moisture-rich animal feeds are potato products, wheat yeast concentrates, pressed pulp, wheat starch, brewer's grains, maize gluten feed and cheese whey. Together, these products account for 90% of the sales of moisture-rich animal feeds. The total amount of moisture-rich feed materials corresponds to more than 1,15 million tons of dry feed materials.
